Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At The Gathering Place, we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our school design, our hiring and talent development practices, our curriculum, our policies and our budget. Our definitions of diversity, equity and inclusion are: 

• Diversity as variation. The variety of ways in which people vary from one another, be it their identities, thoughts, experiences. We also recognize that people identify with intersectional and complex identities. 

• Equity as mindsets and action. Mindsets and actions that strive for and promote equal access and opportunity for all people, which includes excavating biases, removing barriers that prevent individuals and groups from fully participating, and identifying and leveraging one’s own positions of power and privilege where applicable to dismantle inequitable systems.

• Inclusion as environment and culture. Creating environments and cultures of connection, power sharing, and celebration and affirmation of each person in their whole self.
